LIVINGSTON PEOPLE FEAR GETTING INTO THEIR BIKINIS MORE THAN TERRORISM, ASH CLOUDS OR FLYING
People in Livingston are more scared to strip off at the beach than they are of terrorist attack, volcanic ash clouds or flying, according to a new survey.
*Commissioned by nuyuu gyms, the gym chain launched by Dragons’ Den star James Caan last year with a branch in the McArthur Glen centre, the research revealed that it’s women who fear bearing all more than men, with a massive 36% claiming that donning a bikini brings them out in waves of panic more than the thought of being stranded abroad by ash clouds (12%), terrorist attacks (4%) or flying (4%).
Livingston boys it seems have a stronger sense of self preservation and put getting into their trunks (14%), as scary as being caught in an atrocity (14%), followed closely by Icelandic ash (12%).
When it comes to why people in Livingston get all hot and bothered about getting into their swimsuits, a huge 64% are worried about their wobbly bits and looking out of condition.
Again, it’s women who are concerned most about looking more like beached whales than beach babes (44%), compared to 20% of their male counterparts who claim sand in places it shouldn’t be (14%), is the real sore point.
“Whatever shape and size you are, it’s a shame that so many of us are put off from enjoying the sunshine whether we’re on a staycation or abroad, because of how we feel about our bodies,” said Livingston General Manager Amanda Dunn.
“If it affects people that much, we would advise them not to bury their head in the sand but to do something about it.
“At nuyuu in Livingston, we offer an introductory session so we can help people achieve their individual goals regardless of age, gender or ability.
“It’s not just about looking good, but about being healthy, as well as having the body you want.”
When it comes to beach bodies we admire, the girls favour Daniel Craig (48%), David Beckham (24%) and even David Cameron (8%), but not one voted for their other half.
The boys are a more romantic lot with 28% saying their partner had the best bikini bod, a predictable 64% opting for Halle Berry, while 4% favoured the grand dame, Helen Mirren and not one voted for Jordan/Katie Price.
Women ranked socks and sandal combos equally with mankinis or thongs as the biggest beach turn off in male attire (24% each) with speedos and a beer gut coming a close third at 22%.
Lads find topless women over the age of 60 (28%) a real no no, followed by girls with tattoos (14%) and the WAG favoured look of fake tan and boobs, boobed with 8%.
nuyuu in Livingston offers superb state-of-the-art equipment including the latest vibrogyms where people can train their whole body in just 15 minutes.
Offering a clean, fun and modern environment, nuyuu also has unbeatable prices with memberships starting from just £19.99 a month.
“There really is no excuse not to get into shape because at nuyuu we have all the expertise, equipment and the experience to help anyone get the beach body they want and at a price that is right for them,” said Amanda.

NUYUU FITNESS APPOINTS NEW GROUPS OPERATIONS MANAGER AS AQUISITIONS GROW

Nuyuu Fitness, the chain of gyms launched by Dragons' Den star James Caan last year, has appointed a new Group Operations Manager to look after its growing portfolio.
Rangel Sehalic joins the company with a wealth of experience in the leisure sector and will be responsible for the operational aspects of all the chain's gyms.
The 43-year-old, who lives in London, joined nuyuu from Fitness First where he was Sales, Marketing and Operations Director in Milan.
Originally from Bosnia, he first became interested in fitness following in the footsteps of his father who was a boxer, but first pursued a career in refugee aid after gaining a degree in the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo and working for the United Nations in hotspots such as Croatia, Somalia and Ethiopia.
Rangel then decided to turn his passion for fitness into a career and went on to get his International Health and Sports Therapy Diploma before joining Fitness First in 1999, working his way up the ranks.
"I'm delighted to be joining nuyuu Fitness at what is such an exciting time for the company as it continues on the acquisition trail," said Rangel.
Nuyuu currently has *five gyms bought from LA Fitness and is looking to expand to more than 20 in the next 12 months.
It has also announced it will be offering joint venture franchises and is on the verge of announcing two such operations imminently.
Former LA Fitness Sales Director Ben Silcox who is the MD of nuyuu Fitness said: "We have an aggressive expansion programme and as the portfolio grows we needed to find someone with an impressive pedigree in the leisure sector and someone of the right calibre to take on the operational role. Rangel has been in great demand in the industry, so this is a real coup for nuyuu.
"In Rangel we have found the right man and we look forward to him being an integral part of the team as nuyuu grows."
Nuyuu is founded on three principles: to offer the best value with memberships starting from £19.99, to offer a clean, modern and fun environment and to give members great service with a smile.
"Part of why I was so attracted by this opportunity is the nuyuu philosophy which I believe is one that will continue to thrive and prosper," said Rangel.

"We have taken great care to expand the offering to the community including Vibration training that will make the gym relevant to many more people, including those who have MS, stroke and Osteoporosis sufferers and many more," added nuyuu Livingston Manager Amanda Dunn.

MARATHON EFFORT BY EAST GRINSTEAD WOMEN IS NUYUU’S CUP OF TEA FOR CHARITY

Pictured above: Eve Daw & Marion Watson tuck into a well earned treat at the new nuyuu cafe following their marathon effort for Asthma UK.
Two East Grinstead women, who ran the London Marathon this Sunday to raise money for charity, were the icing on the cake for nuyuu Fitness in East Grinstead as they hosted a special coffee morning to raise even more cash and launch the gym’s new cafe.
Nuyuu Pilates instructor 45-year-old Marion Watson and nuyuu member Eve Daw, aged 67, raised £1,500 for Asthma UK through their marathon effort, completing the 26.2 mile course in four hours and 30 minutes and five hours respectively.
They decided to join 36,000 other runners to raise money for the worthy cause because Marion’s 12-year-old daughter suffers from the condition.
And when nuyuu East Grinstead’s General Manager Zoe McCurry heard what they were doing she decided to help raise even more money by hosting a fund-raising coffee morning on Monday at the new cafe at the gym in London Road.
It is the third time that Eve has run the marathon but the first time Marion has entered the event and the duo have been training at the gym in preparation.
“We’ve been running together for eight years and you really have to work hard to bring your distance up because it’s not a natural thing to do,” said Marion. “Eve and I had a great day and really enjoyed the London Marathon experience as well as raising so much for a worthy cause.”
Nuyuu was launched in October by Dragons’ Den star James Caan and the former LA Fitness site has been transformed with state-of-the-art equipment and a complete refurbishment. It offers memberships from just £19.99 a month giving customers a saving of up to 70% on their previous LA Fitness rates.
“We think Marion and Eve are just amazing putting all that effort into raising money for asthma and wanted to do our bit as well,” said Zoe McCurry. “Our members have been really supportive in sponsoring them and we raised additional money through our coffee morning.”
The gym will also be hosting a special evening on Thursday, May 13, to celebrate its official launch where it will once again be fund-raising for a worthy cause with a host of fun activities for East Grinstead people.

PRESS RELEASE: DRAGONS’ DEN STAR OFFERS JOINT VENTURE OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH FRANCHISING
Dragons’ Den star James Caan is offering franchise opportunities to would-be entrepreneurs through his new gym chain.
The BBC star and business guru launched nuyuu fitness with former LA Fitness Sales and Marketing Manager Ben Silcox last Autumn and already the enterprise has a chain of five gyms with two new franchise operations set to be announced later this month.
The £2 million launch was part funded by James’s private equity company Hamilton Bradshaw and is forecast for double digit growth in the next two years with a potential 60 sites currently in the pipeline.
They are looking for investments of £100-300,000 from joint venture partners who can apply online via the nuyuu website. Lucky applicants will then be invited to meet James and Ben in May or June to take their offer further.
“Franchising has always been high on our agenda once we had established a strong brand identity and solid ‘owned’ business foundation,” said nuyuu Fitness MD Ben Silcox.
“James has obviously enjoyed some great success operating franchise businesses in the past and his experience in joint venture franchising will be invaluable to nuyuu’s rapid growth in that sector. We will be announcing two franchise operations in the South of England this month and are now looking for other interested parties.”
Nuyuu was launched with three gyms bought from LA Fitness in Slough, Livingston and East Grinstead. The company then acquired two further gyms in Newbury and Stevenage at the start of 2010 and will be making further acquisitions as well as offering franchises in the next quarter.
It is a value for money brand offering state-of-the-art equipment in a clean, fun and friendly environment – the value for money sector of the health and fitness industry has seen the most growth compared to premium and mid-market propositions.
Memberships start from as little as £19.99 with bolt-on extras available such as Personal Trainers.
It has also teamed up with other UK leading brands such as Dovespa, and Timetwisters to expand the offer at its sites.
“This is an opportunity that is too good to miss. We are talking about giving people what they want, at a price they want, without sacrificing quality and with a hugely experienced team behind it. It is the ideal opportunity for those looking at investing in a franchise,” added Ben.

nuyuu press – Slough & Langley Observer –

As featured in the Slough & Langley Observer, Sunday 7 Feb - to view the full article online please click here
“BULGING biceps were on display on the High Street as a world renowned weightlifter challenged Slough’s strongest men to slay the Dragan.
Dragan Radovic, who once made a living challenging muscle bound beefcakes to endurance competitions on Venice Beach in LA, swapped California sunshine for Slough drizzle as he arrived in the borough to promote the Nuyuu fitness centre in Windsor Road.
The 61-year-old Serbian fitness fanatic was approached by his son, and Nuyuu manager, Rajko, to drum up business for the new gym by impressing soppers with his incredible stamina which helps him perform more than 1,000 reps with two 16kg dumbbells.
Mr Radovic said: “I wanted to show the people of Slough that they can achieve a better standard of fitness and strength by attempting quite simple exercises. I would encourage anyone whether they be self-conscious or even a little over weight to come along and give the gym a try.”

Slough people pitch to Dragon's Den star

Dragons' Den star James Caan weighed into Slough on Monday, January 25, giving local people the chance to pitch to the millionaire entrepreneur.
James visited the town to open the nuyuu gym in Herschel Street and members of the public had the opportunity to pitch and win a year's free membership at the gym.
"Slough people had one minute to say why they deserved free membership and I weighed up what they said before deciding whether they were in or not." said James.
In all ten 12-month memberships were up for grabs at nuyuu fitness which is part of a new chain of gyms launched by the entrepreneur in October.
nuyuu in Slough has taken over the former LA Fitness gym and was transformed in time for James's official opening in January giving members state-of-the-art equipment and unrivalled prices.
Members of the public who turned up for the opening at 6pm were given a raffle ticket and if their number was pulled out of the hat, had the opportunity to pitch.
"I wanted to hear why they think they deserved free membership and they had just one minute to sell themselves to me. They had to be prepared and also up for a bit of fun to make maximum impact," added James.
In addition, James also presented the worshipful, the Mayor of Slough Councillor Joginder Singh Bal, with ten free year memberships for his charity Wexham Park Hospital. The memberships will help patients who will benefit from the club's state-of-the-art equipment which can aid those with long term illness of disability.
"We have taken great care to expand the offering to the community including Vibration training that will make the gym relevant to many more people, including those who have MS, stroke and Osteoporosis sufferers and many more." added James.
James also told business leaders about the importance of looking after their workforce and the benefits of corporate membership which starts from as little as £5 per person with nuyuu.
"In this climate, you have to be fighting fit and that means in both body and mind," he added.
The event marked the official opening of nuyuu Slough and a week of activity including equipment demonstrations and classes. nuyuu Slough is one of the first in the pioneering leisure group which anticipates it will have a chain of 50 gyms across the country within the next two years.
It is backed by James' s private equity company Hamilton Bradshaw and headed by former LA Fitness National Sales Manager Ben Silcox who is MD of the new chain.
"We're delighted that Slough is the first gym to officially open in the nuyuu chain and look forward to a healthy future in the town," said Ben.

25% off teeth whitening for nuyuu members
25% discount on teeth whitening from Pearlys only at NuYuu!
Pearlys are the teeth whitening specialists to many celebrities including X-Factor's Alexandra Burke and JLS and they are now holding regular clinics at NuYuu Gyms. To launch these new clinics Pearlys are offering a 25% discount only at NuYuu.

A message from Pearlys to nuyuu members: We offer a combination of in clinic 'laser' whitening and a customised tray homekit which provides the very best in teeth whitening. The laser treatment has the advantage of being fast and giving an instant result and the homekit then either further whitens (if required) or maintains a whiter smile in the months and years ahead. Clinics offering just the laser treatment or just the trays are, in my opinion, only giving half a treatment.
Step One – Power Bleaching. Ok, so you have to look like Wallace and Grommit for half an hour....but it's really much more comfortable than you'd think, and don't worry, we won't take your picture (unless you ask us to!). The Pearlys special cool light activates the whitening gel to gently lift staining from the teeth. You can expect your teeth to lighten 8-12 shades in 3 x 8 minute applications (although bear in mind that the more stained the teeth the more dramatic the result). Just for the record we love treating smokers 'cos the nicotine stain lifts REALLY EASILY with our special Pearlys Gel. A truly remarkable result.
Step Two Customised Homekit. As part of your in-clinic appointment you will take a simple impression of your teeth with our Pearly Berry Flavoured impression material (not like to horrible stuff that you remember your dentist using!) Our expert technicians who we hoard away in the Pearlys Lab' will lovingly hand craft your trays so that they fit like a glove (only for your teeth!!) Then you'll receive your homekit in the post a few days later to either further whiten your smile or maintain your Pearlys whites for up to 2 years.
Celebrity Smile - Now you can smile like a true celebrity! I can't promise that we'll get your teeth quite as white as Simon Cowell's (but then he's cheated and has veneers!) but I can promise...in fact I can guarantee that you'll get a lovely healthy, natural looking bright smile. In fact, if you're teeth aren't whiter, even after just the first half of the treatment (the 'laser' whitening) then there's no charge. I can't say fairer than that now can I? Btw, that's the lovely Alexandra Burke and Ruth Lorenzo above. You can see what they say about Pearlys at: www.pearlys.co.uk
The usual price for the complete Pearlys Whitening is a very competetive £295 (many clinics charge this for just the laser part of the whitening and I've already told you this is only HALF a treatment really). But for a limited time only and subject to availability all NuYuu members can get a 25% discount and pay just.... £221. We only have a limited number of appointment slots so you must book soon if you want this offer. To book an appointment please email Liz Ridley at Pearlys on email@pearlys.co.uk

PropertyWeek.com reports ‘Dragon Caan’s budget gym venture shapes up’

"Hamilton Bradshaw-backed Nuyuu chain makes first three purchases.
It seems James Caan is out to emulate the success of his Dragons Den co-star in the fitness sector. While Duncan Bannatyne runs a chain of health clubs, the latest venture to receive backing from Caan has come in the form of budget gyms. Nuyuu secured financing from Caan's private equity vehicle, Hamilton Bradshaw, earlier this year and has bought three outlets from one of the UK's largest private health and fitness operators, LA Fitness, to start its expansion trail.
Nuyuu is in the process of rebranding the gyms in East Grinstead, West Sussex, Livingston near Edinburgh and Slough in Berkshire, which average around 15,000 sq ft."

Your gym is getting a clean start!
We’re Ben and Norris, and we’re chuffed to introduce ourselves as the directors of NuYuu, your new gym.
To explain; as of 10th September 2009 your club officially switches from LA fitness to become NuYuu. We’re not talking about a paint job and some nice new stationery. We plan to really shake things up to create the clean, fun fitness environment we think you deserve and at a cost that puts an end to worries about value for money.
We’re not a cocky bunch by nature but we’re pretty bloomin’ certain you’ll like what we’ve got planned.
For instance, how does 2 months membership for £49.99 sound?
Cheap, we hear you cry. Great value, we cry back. We believe that, for too long, health and fitness clubs have been charging you for stuff you don’t really want or need. At nuyuu we’re not going to do that. We guarantee to provide a spotlessly clean, brilliantly equipped, brightly staffed fitness environment.
And that’s it.
No fuss, no gimmicks, just a damn good place to keep fit.
The new fees will start in the next couple of months but in other ways you’ll see immediate change and first up is a bloody good tidy up. Everything will be cleaned thoroughly, lockers repaired and showers improved – basic stuff that’s noticeable only when it’s missing. From now on, it won’t be.
And when we’ve tidied the place up, it’ll stay that way. We promise. All the staff are being re-focused to make cleanliness their number 2 priority (you’re welfare comes first, of course).
And we’ve got a vested interest too. We’re taking delivery of a stack of amazing new equipment from Precor, like these bad boys down here. But cheap it ain’t so the cleaner we keep it, the longer it’ll last. It’s a win-win.
There’s one change we’re making that may get a few raspberries but we’re big boys and we can take it. We’re de-commissioning the pool and using the space to create a second training area with even more state-of-the-art equipment. The truth is, most of you have been paying a heavy subsidy to maintain a facility used by just a few. We genuinely understand why a few of you may be a bit miffed about it going. To you we say sorry but we’re sure it’s for the best. Sometimes we’ll be required to make tough decisions that we believe are in the best interests of all our members.
We reckon we’ve said enough for now but hopefully you’ve a taste of nuyuu and our plans for the future. We want to get things right for our members and can do that best if you talk to us and tell us what you think. Our contact details are at the bottom of this page or just approach any member of staff in the club.
We truly hope you like what you’ve heard and enjoy the changes that are beginning . We look forward to many more years of clean, healthy fun together.
Best wishes,
Ben Silcox – Managing Director
Norris Panton – Operations Director
